Student Checklist Fall 2012

Welcome to San Diego Mesa College! Mesa's Counseling Department is committed to providing the highest quality of services and assistance to students.

We've created numerous online resources that allow you to complete many processes completely online. Use this personal checklist to stay on track, and meet your goals.

1. Complete the Placement Test and Online Orientation:

Click on "mesaonlineorientation: Mesa Online Orientation" under "My Organizations"
TIP: Print the Orientation Learning Outcomes (OLO) form and fill out the form completely. Submit the OLO form to the testing office (I4-201) in order to begin the English and/or Math assessments. The OLO form is your ticket to the placement tests.

2. Complete the online First Semester Planning Workshop. Complete the worksheet as you watch the online workshop. The worksheet should be returned to the Testing Office (I4-201) within 7 to 10 business days.

3. Mail all official college transcripts and test scores to: San Diego Community College District, SDCCD Records Office, 3375 Camino del Rio South, San Diego, CA 92108-3883.

4. Request an official evaluation of your transcripts by completing a Request for Transcript Evaluation available in the Counseling Office (I4-303). (Allow approximately 4-6 weeks for your transcript/s to arrive.)

5. Apply for financial aid: Complete the FAFSA and the Board of Governors Waiver (BOG-W).

6. Get familiar with campus. Click here for the campus map and here for parking information.

Summer Counseling: Students can meet with counselors on a "drop-in" basis, first-come, first-served basis. Drop-in sessions are approximately 15 minutes long and consist of quick questions or fall semester planning only. Educational plans or long range planning are not available during the summer. Waits are long during peak registration periods.

Mesa College Programs and Services

We have a number of programs to assist you with achieving your academic goals here at Mesa College.

Clicking on most of the program titles will automatically direct you to each program's homepage.

International Students - A resource for non-immigrant students attending San Diego Mesa College on F-1 student visas.

MAAP - The Mesa Academic and Athletics Program (MAAP) is a cooperative effort between the Counseling and Physical Education/Athletic Departments dedicated to the academic success of Mesa student-athletes.

Mesa Academy - A student support program designed to enhance African American student success.

Puente Project - A student support program designed to enhance Latino/a student success.

Testing and Orientation - The testing session will help determine which English and math classes you are prepared to take. Orientation will cover essential information on certificate, degree, and general transfer information. It will also address registration, college policies, and procedures that you need know to be successful at Mesa College.

The Transfer Center - Serves as a resource center for students interested in transfer. Check out brochures, catalogs, workshops and more!

Veteran Students (VA) - Designated counselors are here to help veteran students in any way we can. Anyone entitled to V.A. benefits should first contact the Veteran's office at (619) 388-2805.

Learning Communities - an academic program with inter-related courses and interesting subjects that provides participants with a support system to help with retention and academic achievement.

It is our goal to respond to all emails within 72 hours but in some instances it may take longer.

Important note: There will be a longer delay in our response time during registration periods (November - December, and June - July) due to a higher volume of students visiting the Counseling office.
