Dr. Zabaleta earned a B.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from San Diego State University and a Ph.D. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Additionally, Dr. Zabaleta earned a degree in Master Industrialist Studies at Don Bosco Polytechnic Institute in Pasajes, Guipuzcoa, Spain.
As the Undergraduate Language Program Director at San Diego State University for five years, Dr. Zabaleta taught Spanish and Spanish Linguistics and directed its basic language programs. He also directed the Language Laboratory at California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo for a year. Dr. Zabalata taught Spanish at Santa Barbara City College as well.
In addition to Dr. Zabaleta's demonstrated ability to teach Spanish, he has extensive knowledge of language laboratories and how they may support the teaching of foreign languages. He is well acquainted with contemporary theories of language teaching and has provided workshops and other training to teaching associates and lecturers at SDSU. Dr. Zabaleta, who is experienced in the technology used in language laboratories, has developed digitized and computer-assisted assessment tools for use in placing students into Spanish courses.
