Dr. Luoma has a B.A. degree in International Relations and Political Science from St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota; an M.A. in Communications (Organizational Communications and Public Relations) from the Edward R. Murrow School of Communication at Washington State University in Pullman, Washington. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the same institution. Her educational background will bring a level of expertise that will be very valuable as we transition from our current programs into our three new Hospitality programs beginning Fall 2006.
Since September 2005, Dr. Luoma has been a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She has taught graduate-level classes and has also developed and taught online courses. She also taught certificate courses for industry professionals in Event and Meeting Management in the University's International Institute of Tourism Studies. In 2004-2005, she was an adjunct faculty member and Curriculum Consultant at Mesa College and led the Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, and Travel/ Tourism Departments in curriculum re-design.
Previously, Dr. Luoma held assignments as a Visiting Professor at the [then] U.S. International University's branch in Nairobi, Kenya; Program Director/Assistant Professor at Alliant International University's College of Business in San Diego and Sydney, Australia; and adjunct faculty member and Curriculum Consultant in SDSU's Hotel and Tourism Management program. Additionally, for three years, she was Director, External Relations and Placement at Washington State University in Pullman. Outside academia, she has worked as a Graphic Illustrator for Boeing Computer Services, Database Coordinator for Microsoft Corporation's Corporate Outbound Accounts, and a number of other firms in the industry. She has an in depth understanding of global trends in the Hospitality industry. Her outstanding preparation and extensive experience in her field will make her an excellent addition to the Mesa College faculty.
